Nursing Related To Health Care Deviations II - Psychiatric Component
During this clinical course, the ASN student will cover material related to psychiatric nursing. Students will learn about chemically dependent clients, as well as clients with disorders such as schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety disorders. Mental health issues affecting children through geriatrics will be covered. Course documents such as the instructors PowerPoint for lectures are available through BlackBoard. Most testing occurs on-line through BlackBoard. Students are expected to complete two out of class activities: attend a self-help group for addictions and interview a retiree to complete written assignments.Nursing Related To Health Care Deviations II Practicum -
Psychiatric ComponentDuring this clinical course, the ASN student will have the experience of inpatient psychiatric nursing at a local mental health hospital. Students will have the opportunity to work with all age groups from children to geriatric clients. Students will care for chemically dependent clients, as well as clients with disorders such as schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety disorders. An observation of electroconvulsive therapy is also included.

CES: Adult PsychopathologyThis course is part of the Mental Health Technician Academy at Madison Hospital. Anxiety disorders and mood disorders (including bipolar disorder and depression) are covered including symptoms, medications, and approaches.
CES: Physical CareThis course is part of the Mental Health Technician Academy at Madison Hospital. Physical care of the adult/geriatric client will be covered. Procedure for taking blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, temperature, and intake/output measurement is covered. Videos demonstrating procedures will be viewed prior to practice.
CES: Geriatric IssuesThis course is part of the Mental Health Technician Academy at Madison Hospital. Issues surrounding the geriatric client is addressed. Disorders such as dementia and delirium are discussed including symptoms, medications, and approaches. Videos of clients with dementia and the role of the mental health worker will be viewed and discussed.
