Gale Burtch Assistant Professor, Academic Skills
MAT 050 - Basic Algebra
Biographical Information: I am an Elkhart native who graduated from Memorial High School. I then went on to attend Indiana University in Bloomington where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in both Sociology and Criminal Justice.

After graduating from IU, I returned to Elkhart where I worked at Youth Services Bureau and later for the Elkhart School system. While working full-time, I attended IUSB and earned my Master’s degree in Education.

I married my husband in 1983 and we have three children: Whitney, Alex, and Audra. Whitney is currently a junior attending Truman State University in Missouri. Alex is a freshman in high school and Audra is a 6th grader at Concord East Side.

I started working for Ivy Tech in 1987 which was when Ivy Tech Elkhart opened its doors! I began my Ivy Tech career as both a teacher and as an admission’s counselor. My love for teaching was evident and so when a full-time faculty position opened up, I jumped at the chance to stand before a classroom every day!
