EDN 101 - Design Theory
3 credits
This course introduces design theory and color dynamics as applied
to visual composition. Includes exploration and application of three-dimensional
concepts, human factors and the psychology and social influences
of space. |

EDN 102 - Drafting and
Construction 3
credits
Provides an understanding of building structures, residential construction
techniques, building materials and blueprint reading. Includes building
codes and the preparation of plans, elevations, sections, and details
as they relate to construction drawings. |

This course presents the elements of two- and three- dimensional
design concepts as related to representational drawings. Studies
include basic drawing, drafting and perspective techniques; color
rendering, material board preparation and client presentation. |

Practice 3 credits
Introduction to business principles and practices as they relate
to the environmental design profession. Includes business formation
and management, professional ethics and organizations, certification
and licensing, design liability and project management. Special
topics involving consumer behavior, sales techniques and fee structuring
will also be addressed. |

Preparation/Internship 3
credits
Efforts are directed toward achieving a career in environmental
design. Includes a comprehensive program assessment exam, the development
of a quality portfolio and resume, and necessary field experience. |

EDN 216 - CAD for Environmental
Design 3 credits
Introduces fundamentals of CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) for architectural
graphics. Includes overview of CAD and systems, use of software
and plotter applications. Students will complete a environmental
design project by the end of the semester. |

EDN 224 - Travel Study
1-3 credits
This course offers the student an opportunity to study the culture
and history of another country, with an emphasis on art, architecture,
interior and garden design. Includes pre-trip meetings and lectures,
trip journals and summary papers. |

EDN 280 - Co-op/Internship
1-3 credits
Students work at job sites that are specifically related to career
objectives. Provides on-the-job experience while earning course
credit. |

A special topics course provides students with the opportunity to
experience seminars, workshops, and other instructional activities
on topics of interest that reinforce the concepts presented in their

Studies the basic horticulture of garden plant growth and development,
soil fertilization importance, propagation techniques, plant care
and maintenance, and disease and insect control. Includes plant
selection, growing conditions and maintenance necessary for a successful
edible garden. |

and Shrubs 3

Introduces the identification, growth habits and selection criteria
for woody landscape plantings in the garden. Includes the growing
conditions, installation techniques and maintenance requirements
for evergreen and deciduous shade and ornamental trees, shrubs and

Introduces the identification and selection criteria for herbaceous
ornamentals found in garden beds, borders and containers. Includes
the growing conditions, installation techniques and maintenance

Survey of basic landscape garden design. Includes topics on plant
types and uses, client requirements, design concepts, site analysis,
and garden planting plans with an emphasis on garden styles. Also
covers project presentation methods. |

Continuation of ENV231Garden Design II. An advanced study of garden
design principles and presentation methods. Emphasizes resources
and research methods, a master plan approach, material specification,
cost estimation and installation techniques. |

Landscaping 3
credits
Presents the concepts of natural landscaping and ecological design
with an emphasis on the creation of beautiful, healthy garden ecosystems.
Topics include organic gardening principles, soil building techniques,
multifunctional plantings, native species preservation, wildlife
habitat restoration, integration of edible landscapes and sustainable
environments that benefit both people and wildlife. |

to Interior Design 3

An introductory course which provides students with an overview
of the field of interior design. Exercises include small scale space
analysis and functional planning based on user needs, application
of the principles of design, furniture arrangement and selection,
interior finish
considerations, and presentation techniques. |

INT 104 - Textiles in
Interior Design 3
credits
An intensive study of textiles from fiber identification and classification
to finish. Also introduces the study of interior textile fabrications
including window treatments, upholstery, carpet and wall coverings. |

Presents concept development, programming and space planning of
the interior environment. Exercises reinforce creativity and problem
solving skills. Emphasizes the relationship between individuals
and their surroundings, including studies in human scale, proxemics
and design considerations for special populations. |

Interiors I 3
credits
Survey of the development of the interrelationship of architecture,
interiors, furniture, and decorative arts from antiquity through
the ages. |

Presents the integration of interior design and architectural detailing.
Includes the impact of mechanical and electrical systems, acoustics
and codes. Special emphasis will be placed on lighting technology
and application. |

Examines the physical properties and characteristics of various
finish materials and architectural detailing including floor and
wall treatments. Addresses problems in specifying, estimating, and
installing these materials. |

Studies include commercial technological and base building requirements,
barrier-free, building and life safety codes, analysis of existing
conditions, client interview, and square footage and space planning
standards. Emphasis is on task analysis and workstation design,
systems and equipment manufacturers and finish selections within
the office. |

Students will define, research, and develop a program for an advanced
design problem from their chosen area of specialization. The project
design solution is expected to show evidence of professional interior
design research and practices including: programming, concept development,
space planning, all necessary working drawings and specifications
and appropriate presentation materials. A signed contract must be
filed with the Interior Design program advisor |

Bath Design 3

Involves the requirements and space planning for kitchens and baths,
utilizing both standard and custom cabinetry and fixtures. Topics
also include casework for media and conference centers. |

INT 223 - Twentieth
Century Interiors 3

A continuation of the INT 109 History of Interiors course. An in-depth
exploration of the movements in architecture and interior design
of the 19th century to present day. |
