The scholarship, in honor of the late Joseph E. Rood Jr., is awarded to students enrolled in the Paramedic Science program at Ivy Tech. Each recipient will be awarded a scholarship for $1,000 that may be used to pay for their tuition.
A Navy veteran, Rood worked at Deaconess Hospital for over 28 years, serving as an EMS Coordinator and Clinical Quality Improvement Analyst. He was best known for his pioneering efforts in patient care and paramedic science, and while working at Deaconess he created a unique curriculum for teaching EMTs.
